What Do Game Devs Do Outside of Work?

Have you ever wondered what a game developer does outside of work? Of course, we play games but we have many other interests and hobbies as well. We recently caught up with several of our colleagues to find out what they do when they walk out of the office.

Name: Linnéa

Hobby: Knitting/Crochet

I was only a few years old when I finished my first cross stitch that I got from my parents, and I’ve loved handicraft ever since. Nowadays I really enjoy crocheting since you can make something practical fast with your hands and it takes you away from all the screens we spend our lives in front of. Why not challenge yourself with creating a game character without any instructions. Maybe you’ve seen the Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! characters I’ve made on Resolution’s social media accounts.

Name: Hande

Hobby: Dice Making

I’ve been playing TTRPGs for a long time and had a fascination with dice. One day, I was scrolling through Tiktok and I saw someone making their own dice. I decided to give it a try and got addicted to it.

Name: Vendela

Hobby: Sailing

I love challenges and adventures. Two years ago I thought, "I don't know how to sail, but it looks cool… lets try that!". Now I have a boat and always look forward to the summer sailing trips!

Name: Niklas

Hobby: Building Synthesizers

I have been making music for personal and recreational purposes for close to 30 years. As a part of that I ventured into making my own instruments. A few years ago I started making electronic music (with synthesizers you need no friends as you can be the whole band yourself), and with that came the urge to build electronic instruments. The instrument in the picture is a basic subtractive synth with basic sequencing capabilities, built from strip boards and loose components, based on schematics found on the internet mixed with quite a bit of improvisation.

Name: Debora

Hobby: Mushroom Hunting

I got into mushroom hunting when I moved to Sweden about five years ago. In Italy there’s no such a thing as “allemansrätten”, so I had never thought about doing it before. I became passionate about mushroom hunting not only because it’s delicious to eat food directly from nature, but also because it reminds me of Pokemon hunting and that makes it even more fun!

Name: Johanna

Hobby: My Own TV Show

I am working on a TV show called Badass Women Online together with the production studio PlusFourSix that will feature inspirational women from gaming, esports and the online world. It’s not done yet but we’ve started filming, so keep an eye out for it!

Name: Henry

Hobby: Pixel Art

I technically got my start making pixel art ages ago (I think when I was seven or eight) so that I didn’t have to rely on stock assets for my game projects, but didn’t take it too seriously outside of that. Then in college,I discovered the Pixel Dailies community and daily art prompts and challenged myself to make a piece every day of February 2018 and then just… never stopped. I’m still churning out daily pixel art today, which serves as a nice contrast to my usual work as a programmer.

Do you want to learn more about what we do when we’re not developing games? Let us know and we can write another blog post highlighting even more of our hobbies.
