Life At Resolution: Clint - 3D/Tech Artist

Making games requires many different skill sets. Today, Clint - one of our 3D/tech artists - is sharing his experience at Resolution Games.

What is your favorite part about working at Resolution Games?

My favorite part is collaborating with everyone at work, being able to work with different disciplines to come up with solutions; that’s one of the most rewarding parts. And many of us have become actual friends and not just coworkers.

What is an example of a fun challenge or project you've worked on?

In one of our early projects, Wonderglade, we had to learn size and scale and what felt okay in VR. The stereo vision makes such a big difference between what you see on a flat screen and what you see in a headset. Menus that are right up in your face feel really uncomfortable, so we spent some time moving things back and forth to find good distances to ensure things are readable and also comfortable.

Another recurring challenge is trying to squeeze as much visual fidelity into mobile headsets while still being performant and running at high frame rates.

Can you share an example of how we collaborate at Resolution Games?

It’s really fun to tweak things in-game and see the results in real-time with your co-workers. For example, we might play a match and change some physics bounciness or the size of objects and get instant feedback that the game is more fun.

What are some fun things that happen at Resolution Games outside the daily work routine?

One time, we were showing Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! at Comic Con Stockholm and it was getting towards the end of the day. There was only a little boy and his mom left at the booth. The boy was having a blast playing in VR and we asked the mom if she wanted to try. She said, “No thanks, I don’t really play video games.” We showed her the phone companion app and she responded, “Oh, is this playing with my son at the same time?” Us, “Yes, you can play together!” So she started playing; she was a little clumsy at first but then got super into it. They both laughed so much. It was the first time she had played a game together with her son. It was really cool to see them be able to share a moment, and to see her understand why her son loved playing video games so much. After a couple games, she said, “Um, can I try the VR thingy too?”

What excites you about being in the VR/AR games space?

VR and AR even being possible is crazy exciting. In VR, it’s like your brain believes you are somewhere in another world. It’s like magic!

What do you look forward to in your professional development at Resolution Games?

I’m really looking forward to figuring out how we can creatively use this VR/AR medium to tell amazing stories or give people meaningful experiences that stick with them. Are you excited about this too? Check out our latest openings: jobs.resolutiongames.com
